Panelists

o Moderator: Sam Jones

Sam Jones is considered a leading strategic catalyst in industries going through massive change.

Jones is the founder and CEO of Formation Media, Inc., a company focused on radically changing how magazine content is created, consumed, and monetized in the digital world. Prior to Formation Media, Jones worked at Demand Media where he was the corporate development function and ran the Games division.

Before Demand Media, Jones founded Centurion MGT Partners a strategic advisory firm focused on developing and executing organic and acquisitive growth strategies. Clients included Merrill Lynch, Siemens, and others. One of his engagements included creating the strategy for deploying broadband services throughout the State of Illinois with a focus on under-served areas.

Jones was a Manager at Mercator Partners and aligned massive telecom industry players in developing multi-billion-dollar financing vehicles for Bechtel Telecommunications. He also led efforts in creating broadband proliferation strategies for the State of Michigan. Before Mercator Partners, Jones founded i2e2, an online gaming community and digital download solution with the backing of BancBoston Ventures.

Jones started his career at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, a Wall Street investment bank. He focused on technology mergers and acquisitions.

Jones graduated Northwestern University with a BA in Political Science and an MBA from Harvard Business School, and regularly leads discussions regarding capitalizing on large-scale innovation.

o Mike McGlade
Mike McGlade has been a leader in the technology, entertainment, and digital media world through work at hot startups and powerful established players.

McGlade is the Chief Revenue Officer of FastPay, a company uniquely focused as a finance platform for growing digital media companies. McGlade's efforts contributed to their hyper-growth and ability to attract $25 million in venture funding. FastPay has been lauded as an valuable and accessible option for small, medium and large digital media publishers, agencies, and other players.

Prior to FastPay, McGlade headed sales & marketing for Betterworks. He built a world-class team and increased revenues, user base (by almost 700% in one quarter), and the enterprise value of the company.

McGlade served as interim COO of Palmstar Media Capital a film-focused hedge fund and production company. His efforts helped to refine and quantify the efforts of Palmstar. McGlade was instrumental in their fund raise of $30 million.

McGlade also advises several startups with a keen focus on the Southern California ecosystem. McGlade graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Computer Engineering and an MBA from Harvard Business School.


o David Carter
David Carter is a prolific entrepreneur, investor, and advisor.

Carter is a co-founder and partner of the Amplify accelerator. Carter has sourced, funded, and is mentoring companies in the Amplify portfolio as they go through new financings, strategic planning, and partnerships.

Prior to Amplify, Carter served as founder, President & CEO of Vertical Technologies (sold to Zebra (NASDAQ, ZBRA)), Thoughtstar (sold to iManage (NASDAQ, IMAN)), and S5 Wireless. In addition, Carter served as an EIR for Wasatch Venture Fund now Epic Ventures.

A few of the companies Carter has funded and mentor includes: Style Saint, ThreeDayRule, Ecomom, Celtek, Domo, Invested.in, and many others.

Carter is also president of the Carter Family Foundation as well as former Board Chairman at Chapman University.

 o Mike Wann

Mike Wann is the senior vice president of business development for Demand Media, where he oversees strategic partnerships and new revenue opportunities. While at Demand Media, Wann has spearheaded the development of the organization’s monetization infrastructure for all of its owned and operated properties, as well as display advertising, site level monetization and product partnerships.

Previously, Wann was the director of business development for Amazon.com, where he served as the strategic lead for the shift to digital content and online advertising. Prior to joining Amazon.com, he led business development at MSNBC.com, overseeing content partnerships, new revenue products and distribution partnerships. For more than a decade, Wann has facilitated large-scale business development initiatives, focused on reaching new market segments and successfully growing new products.

Wann received his M.B.A. from the University of Redlands, as well his B.A. in political science.
