“Pros & Cons of Taking Your Business International: financing, strategy and risks”

Dear Global LAVA Friends – for those who are NOT an early morning person, this event is NOT to miss! Please note that this time we are moving away from our traditional breakfast events and are excited to present our first Global LAVA Evening gathering on June 5th (Thursday) from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm at our usual spot in Century City, 2029 Century Park East, conference room A. Light refreshments will be served. Meet some of the most noticeable leaders in the international community and have your questions ready.

David Josephson

David Josephson is the Western Regional Director for Ex-Im Bank, based in Orange County, CA and responsible for marketing and sales in ten Western States. The Western Region offices provide a direct path for U.S. exporters to apply for and use Ex-Im Bank guarantees and trade credit insurance. Josephson headed commercial and corporate banking offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, London, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  He is a transactional specialist in international finance and trade credit insurance. Michelle Patterson

Ms. Patterson is the President of the Global Women Foundation, a 501(c) (3) public charity that serves to provide support, leadership and advocacy for women’s initiatives around the globe. The charity, which started almost ten years ago as a local festival supporting 22 charities, has grown into a global movement for women. She is also the founder and an organizer of 2014 California Women's Conference. Ms. Patterson is also the Founder, President and CEO of Women Network LLC, a digital media company giving women a voice to share their message. Francisco Correa

Mr. Francisco Correa is the Trade Commissioner of Chile in Los Angeles since 2011, being responsible for promoting Chile's trade and investment in the west coast of the US. Before ProChile Francisco worked as an external consultant for St. George Community Housing and Norvatis Pharmaceutical in Australia, Senior Product manager at Agrosuper, the largest food and beverage company in Chile, and as a Key Account manager for LAN airlines. In September 2012 Francisco was appointed as the coordinator of ProChile in North America being in charge of coordinating the offices of ProChile in the US ,Canada and Mexico. More on LinkedIn:


Kati Suominen is Founder and CEO of TradeUp Capital Fund, a new equity crowdfunding platform for globalizing companies. TradeUp enables globalizing companies seeking $100,000-$20 million in debt or equity to connect and transact with diverse investors. She is also the Founder and CEO of Nextrade Group, LLC, a consulting firm on leading-edge technologies and policies that drive trade, Adjunct Professor at UCLA Anderson School of Management, and Adjunct Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). Victoria Silchenko (moderator)

Victoria Silchenko, Ph.D. is an adjunct lecturer at CLU teaching 2014 MBA summer course on Entrepreneurial Finance. She seats on the LAVA board and is the Chair of Global LAVA. She is the founder & CEO of Metropole Capital Group and creator of the annual Next Generation Entrepreneurship and Global Crowdfunding Forum. She is also a contributing writer for the Huffington Post  and Los Angeles Business Journal. In 2013 she was nominated by the Los Angeles Business Journal to the Women Making A Difference Awards. Formerly, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher directly with Dr. Arthur Laffer (former economic advisor to President Reagan) at Laffer Investments and later held an analytical position at the Milken Institute. Global LAVA holds monthly breakfast meetings on the first Friday each month from 7:30am to 9:00am. These meetings focus on addressing specific topics related to the international marketplace and are highly interactive so everyone can share their concerns & opportunities among the participants. Each themed meeting involves several guest speakers with a track record of a notable success and expertise in that area to present a short speech and then answer questions from the participants. Networking is highly encouraged and anticipated. Free for LAVA Members: $35 for non-members, please pre-register online.
