There are thousands of small businesses in Los Angeles County representing just about every category imaginable - from beauty salons to attorneys, restaurants to house painters, boutique retailers to local franchisees.
Virtually all of these businesses are affected in some way by the ubiquitous smartphone-owning consumer, and they all feel the pressure to reach and engage those consumers through mobile. Amidst this still poorly met demand there exist huge opportunities for entrepreneurs. Of course, the size of the demand creates competition among startups and among large established players.
The next installment of Mobile LAVA will examine the local small business environment, B2B and B2C mobile app strategies, and how different mobile technologies (geo-fencing, Beacon, text messaging, in-app messaging, and 3rd party directories) can work together to solve SMB challenges.

As COO of Colony Logic, Mr. Vogel is responsible for marketing, communications, strategic planning, operations, and business development across the company. Previously, Mr. Vogel served as Senior VP of Digital & Mobile for Tribune Company, including the Los Angeles Times and Chicago Tribune and 39 broadcast television stations, including WGN America on national cable and KTLA. He was part of the launch team at cars.com, created the first group online function for Gannett, and ran digital strategy and sales for Journal Communications and PackerInsider.com (the second largest paid subscriber base after ESPN Insider). He has been on the North American Board of the Mobile Marketing Assoc., Google’s Publisher Advisory Board, as well as served on the Board of the IAB’s Mobile Center.

Buck founded Canyon Creek Capital in 2010 and has over 10 years of experience in finance, media, consulting and M&A. The firm initially provided early stage advisory services to companies looking to expand market share, re-evaluate company strategy and raise capital but quickly moved on to deploying its first fund in 2011. Buck has become known for producing top of market due diligence and providing a tremendous amount of value for his portfolio companies. He is an advisor to several start-ups in the community, received his MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management and is a former Army Captain and Blackhawk Pilot.

Eric Jaffe is a Los Angeles-based entrepreneur. He is currently Co-founder and COO of ChowNow, a technology lab devoted to building ROI-driven progressive products for the restaurant industry. A nuts and bolts specialist, he oversees all operational aspects of the company. Eric is in charge of compiling metrics for growth measurement and statistical awareness which lay the groundwork for him to set goals for the company. As a founder, he resources between departments and is intimately involved in hiring, training, innovating corporate processes and disseminating best practices.
Prior to founding ChowNow, Eric co-founded and operated a high-performing, boutique, commercial real estate investment firm we he developed a nationwide portfolio. He enjoys guest lecturing at UCLA and has been a mentor in various local youth programs focused upon entrepreneurship and professional growth. An avid outdoorsman, Eric has traversed thousands of miles of dusty, marshy and snowy trails around the globe and has been knocking off California's 14ers since he was a young lad.

Zorik Gordon is the SERVIZ Chief Executive Officer. Prior to SERVIZ, Zorik was a founder of ReachLocal, Inc. (NASDAQ: RLOC), a leading provider of digital marketing services to small and medium-sized businesses, where he served as CEO from 2004 until 2013. From 1999 to 2003, Zorik served as CEO for WorldWinner, a provider of prize-based tournaments in online games. Zorik also founded Jackpot.com, which grew to become the Connexus Corporation, an online marketing company.
