Dr. Ric Kaner,

Richard B. Kaner received his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. After carrying out postdoctoral research at the University of California, Berkeley, he joined the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), in 1987 as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 1991 and became a Full Professor in 1993. Professor Kaner has received awards from the Dreyfus, Fulbright, Guggenheim, and Sloan Foundations, as well as the Exxon Fellowship in Solid State Chemistry and the Buck−Whitney Research Award from the American Chemical Society for his work on refractory materials, including new synthetic routes to ceramics, intercalation compounds, superhard materials, graphene, and conducting polymers.
Professor Kaner holds a joint appointment in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry as well as in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering.

Kevin D. DeBré is the chair of the Firm’s Intellectual Property & Technology Transactions Practice Group. Kevin advises entrepreneurs and companies that use intellectual property to build their businesses. Kevin has particular expertise in structuring and negotiating technology commercialization and patent licenses, strategic alliances, research and development collaborations, trademark licensing and brand merchandising agreements and manufacturing, distribution and marketing arrangements. Dina Lozofsky, Executive Director, Biocom Los Angeles
As the Executive Director of Biocom’s Los Angeles office, Dina brings a 20-year career working in and around science and technology in Southern California. Before joining Biocom, Dina was the Associate Director for Licensing and Business Development at UC Santa Barbara’s Office of Technology and Industry Alliances. While at UC Santa Barbara, Dina designed, launched and led a program to mentor and support startup companies formed around UCSB technology. A key outcome of this program was to raise awareness and visibility of the high quality startups being spun out of UCSB. Dina is also a member of the board of the LA Venture Association, an organization focused on education and networking opportunities for Los Angeles start-up, emerging growth and late stage venture-funded company executives.
