Stephen Watkins
Principal
Arcturus Capital
Mr. Watkins serves as a Principal of the General Partner and is one of the original organizers of the Fund. Mr. Watkins has extensive experience in financing and operating technology companies. In 1999, Mr. Watkins co-founded GetStartedHere, a technology accelerator dedicated to the development of start-up companies in Southern California. The company established networks between technology companies and large service providers, investors and institutions, such as the CalTech. In 2000, GetStartedHere facilitated the financing of over $50 million in private equity for early to late stage technology companies.
Mr. Watkins is a partner in the technology incubator CO2 and advises the Los Angeles County incubator, Business Technology Center. Both facilities are located in the San Gabriel Valley and develop technologies that are licensed from JPL and CalTech.
Prior to his work in the pharmaceutical industry, Mr. Watkins served as legislative assistant to Congressman David Dreier, covering domestic policy issues, including HCFA and NIH policy. Mr. Watkins earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the Anderson School at UCLA and received his undergraduate degree at the University of California at Berkeley.

Kevin Scanlon
TechCoast Angels
Kevin is a cancer specialist and molecular biologist turned angel investor. Years ago he worked in Berlin at Schering AG to build up their cancer program in Europe, Asia and the US. While there he began genomics research to identify novel genes that cause cancer, validating and then patenting them.
Today Kevin is a member of the Pasadena Angels and the Tech Coast Angels. He's the angel expert on the life sciences and medical devices.

George Abe
UCLA
George Abe is a lecturer and Faculty Director of the Applied Management Research (AMR) Program at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. His teaching responsibilities include entrepreneurship, business plan development and field study program advisories. AMR is the field study program, required of all full time MBA students.
He was Business Development Manager for the UCLA Office of Intellectual Property, which is responsible for patent protection and commercialization of UCLA research.
Previously, he was a venture partner with Palomar Ventures, a VC firm in Santa Monica, California. Before Palomar, he was with Cisco Systems in the office of the chief technical officer. Prior to that he was with Infonet Services Corporation (NYSE:IN, now BT) where he designed Infonet’s IP data service and helped spinout the company from its parent, Computer Sciences Corp (NYSE: CSC).
From 1998 until 2006, he was a member of the board of directors of Switchcore AB, a publicly traded fabless semiconductor designer in Sweden. He has also held board of director positions with various startup companies and not-for-profit organizations.
He is the author of Residential Broadband, which presents an analysis of high-speed residential networking, published by Cisco Press.

Cancellation Policy
- Breakfast/Event cancellations must be received and confirmed by NOON the day before the breakfast/event to receive a refund. Email info@lava.org to submit a cancellation. Your cancellation is not effective until LAVA Member Services responds to confirm.
- No-shows and late cancellations will be charged the full breakfast/event price
- Late registrations (after the online pre-reg cutoff) are non-refundable
Payment Policy
Registrations must be made online via Credit Card - Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards are welcomed. In special circumstances, checks will be accepted before the event at the discretion of LAVA Member Services. Any checks not received in time will require credit card payment onsite.
